About the Job:
As a Network Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll build and maintain Akamai’s worldwide network. You’ll work closely with field technicians, ISPs, customers, equipment vendors, and internal operations and engineering staff. You will design and deploy server clusters at colocations and ISP locations. You’ll remotely diagnose hardware problems, facilitate server repairs and manage Akamai’s hardware assets. You’ll also diagnose and repair network and switch problems.
 
About the Team:
You will be part of the team which is responsible for Akamai’s Edge Platform consisting of over 180,000 servers in about 1400 networks across 111 countries. This platform handles a significant portion of the world’s Web traffic. Our Network Infrastructure Engineers build and maintain Akamai’s worldwide network.
Responsibilities:
• Work closely with field technicians, ISPs, customers, equipment vendors, and internal operations and engineering staff during post and pre-install stages of deployment projects.
• Responsible for designing, deploying, server clusters at colos and ISP locations
• Remotely diagnose hardware problems, facilitate server repairs, and manage Akamai’s hardware assets.
• Attend service incident meetings when needed and work to restore service operations as quickly as possible and to minimize the impact on business operations
• Recruit, train, and manage field technicians.
• Project-manage new server deployment and network installations, work closely with Network Architects, Network Engineers, Contract Managers, and Operations staff.
• Specify hardware configurations to meet requirements of new and existing service offerings.
• Diagnose and repair network, switch, and router problems.
Qualifications:
Qualifications:
• BS in Computer Science/Engineering or related field or commensurate experience
• 1-3 years of hands-on network/server HW experience.
• Knowledge of Internet protocols including TCP/IP and DNS.
• Unix/Linux command-line experience.
• Comfortable with Linux and hardware systems support in an Internet operations environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to solve problems creatively.
• Goal-oriented attitude to work through roadblocks, attend to details, and bring about project closure.
 
Desired Qualifications:
• Familiarity with routers and managed switches
• Excellent time and project management skills.
• Some exposure to large scale data center hardware deployments and building scaling infrastructure
